Normally it would be assumed that a shortage of storage space in the warehouse would mean a growing business. While that would be welcome, but at time there are other factors particularly when designing a warehouse for the first time with lack of operational experience that we may end up with in sufficient storage capacity.

While it cannot be emphasized enough that while designing a warehouse, layout, type of product, capacity, product stock and initial investments should be considered thoroughly. Even when all this factors are considered, it is not unusual that we may still fall short of capacity.

2) Vertical Height

While redesigning and reinstalling one of the above system, one must never discount the use of vertical height, it is one of the most important aspect of increasing the storage without having to move out.

To utilizing maximum height, use of semi-automated, fully automated or manual picking is advised. While semi & fully automated systems require specialized MHE’s, manual picking is done through installing walkways and staircase to connect different floors and aisles.

3) Mezzanine Floors

One of the most efficient system to increase the floor space is to have raised platform or commonly called mezzanine floor. Jay Storage uses latest sigma design which reduces the use of raw material making the system more economical, adaptable and demountable

The extension of the floor is only limited by availability of height. The loading capacity is tailored to client’s requirements and products. While staircase is installed for movement of personal’s, material is moved in lifts and even on slides. The system can be quickly mounted or demounted at a short notice.

4) Warehouse Automation

While we can install any of the systems mentioned in the compaction list to increase the storage capacity, the densely installed systems and products along with throughput requirements would mean warehouse automation would be required if the product is to be stored and retrieved in a fast and efficient manner that does not damage the material and also reaches its customer on time in this cut throat competitive business environment where customer service is the key to customer retention.
